Review of Like Crazy (2011) by Gregory K — 27 Aug 2012
Terrific performances from the two leads. Overall, an amazing approach to the material from director Drake Doremus and DP John Guleserian. They shot it on a Canon 7D with a lot of the film being improvised and it's an amazing demonstration of how effective DSLRs can be for intimate character studies such as this.
The camera is tiny and far from intrusive, which allows for a far more intimate setting for the actors. And while most of the lighting was practical, John's framing is on point. The entire film just worked from me.
From the performances to the camera work to the level of realism they were able to achieve, the whole film worked really well. Give it a look.
