Review of Like Crazy (2011) by Francisco B — 28 Aug 2012
I absolutely love this film, Like Crazy. Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones suit each other perfectly in this film about a first love and whether connection and passion can conquer distance and time itself.
The films natural raw feelings come from the two young and clearly talented actors. They spark this fantastic story about a couple trying to keep their relationship alive after college in LA. Anna is an exchange student who's visa expires and she decides to spend an additional few months with her boyfriend Jacob until she reluctantly goes home. Shortly afterwards she decides to come back to LA where she discovers that the US will not allow her back in the country due to her violations earlier, thus leaving the long distance relationship, a continuous long distance relationship.
Drake Doremus brilliantly uses an outline of the film to direct the actors in which they improv almost every scene to get to a dramatic climax, that doesn't really conclude, but it allows you to have your own opinions, deciding what their fate is.
