Review of Like Crazy (2011) by Movie R — 07 Feb 2012
Tough, heartbreaking romance-drama, in the same vein as 2010's Blue Valentine. Like Crazy, though, focuses more on the "early" period of a relationship and how youth views love.
There are flaws, its pacing is rather stagnant, and there is no other subplot to take focus away from Jacob (Star Trek's Anton Yelchin) and Anna's (Felicity Jones) attempts to become a couple in the same time zone. But the intimacy of the main characters, combined with the solid performances from Yelchin and Jones, make this a memorable film.
Drake Doremus co-wrote and directed this feature (and drew upon from his own life experiences) and anyone who's ever been in a long distance relationship should be able to relate. Like Crazy hit pretty close to home for me, especially when it came to doing anything to be with the one you love. Not for everyone, and seemingly not for an older generation, but it's and earnest and ambivalent look at relationships in today's world.
