Review of Like Crazy (2011) by Tamara K — 08 Aug 2012
Another movie with Sundance on the poster. You just have to love it!
Jacob (Anton Yelchin) and Anna (Felicity Jones) are college students who quickly fall for each other after first encounter. Anna is an exchange student and upon finishing the school year is required to go back to her home in England, however this new romance prevents her from leaving Jacob and she ends up staying with him for the summer knowing that she has violated her Student Visa. After leaving to England and returning to California she is notified that her Student Visa violation is much more severe than she had thought. She is banned from entering the country and Jacob and Anna suffer jet lag hearts. Jacobâ(TM)s furniture business keeps him from simply moving to London to be with Anna and since Anna canâ(TM)t enter America the relationship suffers.

This is far from your cliche love story with all of the usual lines and charm. Like Crazy is a genuine realistic love story with all of the bliss and harsh reality.
The movie can make for a really boring time and really hard to keep up with if the house isnâ(TM)t dead silent besides the TV or the subtitles are on. But what you get is a beautifully told love story. It illustrates how love can be just as devastating as it is blissful and warm. Like Crazy explores the hardships of love when together and when apart.

As I watched Like Crazy, the simplicity and genuineness made filled me with emotion. Anton Yelchin does a great job as a trying boyfriend, and Felicity Jones steals your heart and breaks it as well.
My one wish was that the film focused more on the both charactersâ(TM) other partners. I feel like Jennifer Lawrenceâ(TM)s character could have made a much bigger impact in the story of Jacob if they used her more significantly and same with Simon (Charlie Bewley) in Annaâ(TM)s story, but I guess all was to keep us focused in on the connection between Anna and Jacob. At times itâ(TM)s scary how real this is. Whether weâ(TM)re worlds apart or sitting next to each other, love does not go without sorrow.

I am in love with the film. I love the poster, I love the actors, I love it all. It is a beautiful demonstration of the fragility of love and the reality of it.
Movie Grade: B.
****************************************************.
Now if you watch the film, I already warned you it can be really boring. However, from reading lots of reviews on it a lot of people are confused with the ending. So if youâ(TM)re planning to watch this film and donâ(TM)t want any spoilers just click on the heart and be on your way.
In the end Anna and Jacob are finally able to be together. After a while of being in Jacobâ(TM)s home, Anna and Jacob take a shower together. The scene is strangely dramatic and makes you wonder if these two will be together after all. Anna and Jacob embrace each other and take turns having flashbacks of their relationship and they realize thatâ(TM)s not what they have anymore. All of the joy and laughter early in the relationship is gone as they have now weathered so much and become like an old couple. Every time they fought to be together was to get back that summer that she stayed. You can say to yourself that if Anna had simply left and not violated her Visa that the two would be fine. However, the puppy love may not have happened and the relationship might not have sustained. Instead they get to fight for something but after years of fighting and waiting, the trophy has become dull. The ending brings full circle the tragedy that is love.
The future is unclear, but what remains is hope that love will prevail.
