Review of Like Crazy (2011) by Dodds D — 15 Dec 2013
It's good, but it hinges on some basic premises of stupidity: 1) Overstaying your student visa when you're a foreigner will actually have consequences??? No shit. 2) One of you cannot get into the US, but the other can get into the UK, and has a career path that's not tied to being in any one spot.
It also hinges on one point: She's always more in love with him than he is with her. Both roles are acted very well, Felicity Jones is very lovable and easy to like, and Yelchin is good, but his character isn't quite as likable. Great work from Jennifer Lawrence in a smaller role, and from Alex Kingston as Jones' mother (as well as Oliver Muirhead as her father). There's just so many head scratching moments where people who were both in love LIKE CRAZY would find a way to make it work if they really wanted to. I think maybe we're meant to notice that one is a romantic and one is a realist...but you'll have to watch and see what happens.
