Review of Lightyear (2022) by Mashiro11 — 20 Jun 2022
It starts quite nice, but suddently lose it's way completely. 2 totaly pointless characters that has a lot of screen time for cheap jokes. There is no climax. There is no story tension. Buzz character is flat.
-Spoiler session-.
Buzz initial issue is to deal with duty at the expense of his own personal relations, which the movie defends it IS life itself. That is an interesting motive, but is tossed aside quickly and replaced just with "your excelence made you arrogant, you need to correct that". Izzy is presented as his possible answer, "we are not good yet, but we can learn". At some point, he is almost forced to remember he was not always excelent and he explains it. If we could watch that instead of listen, that could lead to a great storyline if followed, but is washed away.
Buzz final choice which leads to victory against the villain, giving up the one thing he had spend all his life persuing was presented as just a mere detail on an action scene.
Izzy also has an interesting issue with space but the movie just pass over her resulotion like it was not a big deal at all, just as Buzz resolutions.
That plant vine presented at the start is pointless. Granny and that other guy are useless. Sox was a nice source of good jokes but also used as an all purpuse plot story solution regarding the tech mumble jumble.
It feels like all the effort was placed on the start of the movie, that it was carefully planned, Buzz's used as a tool to present his friend's life going on and then they realized there was an hour of movie yet to make.
