Review of Lights Out (2016) by Spencer K — 28 Jul 2016
While it may have some familiar genre tropes, Lights Out has an interesting and unique story to boot some of its familiarity. it's simple, but it's incredibly effective. this is a smart, scary, wholly original and different horror film.
Teresa Palmer and Maria Bello give fantastic performances as does the little boy, surprisingly but thankfully. there are some really creepy scenes and some really effective scares. and the monster, Diana, is actually scary.
while there is a fair amount of jump scares, Lights Out is still an original, smart and a creepily effective scare fest.
