Review of Lights Out (2016) by Nuffie R — 29 Jul 2016
For it only being his first feature length film directorial debut, David Sandberg did a pretty nice job. Having seen his previous work, I knew he wouldn't make a bad movie and I was right. Although, I thought it would be less cliche than it was.
Teresa Palmer was great as always, but the rest of the acting felt so underdeveloped and forced. I do have to say that Sandberg is one of the only people of the past decade to use jump scares in the right way.
They weren't cheap, they had tension and suspense leading up to them which is exactly how they should be done. Overall, Lights Out was not as memorable than predicted but overall I would still call it a good movie and would recommend to any horror fan as well as anyone who likes to see a horror movie every now and then for the fun of it, because there's a lot in here for both crowds.
