It had potential to be really frightening. There were just some moments where you were forced to laugh when I felt you should still be frightened for a characters life. If they had avoided the funny moments while getting chased and on the brink of dying, I think it might have been pretty frightening.
As it was, because they forced the audience to laugh you were taken out of the movie and realized the main characters weren't in any real danger.
