Review of Lights Out (2016) by John B — 12 Jun 2017
The best paranormal horror I've seen in a very long time. After seeing a lot of poorly executed attempts at the supernatural like insidious and so on. I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It doesn't waste time at all and throws you straight into the story.
Ok you could argue that the scares are somewhat predictable but the story is strong enough to carry it. The cast were all really good and there's a good script. I like the fact I wasn't screaming at the characters for doing something stupid.
They were all relatively smart and weren't constantly walking into obvious danger. The ending of film was good and when the creature/ghost/ evil spirit was destroyed it stayed destroyed. I was expecting it to come back for one last scare at the end like a lot of these types of movies do.
I was glad it didn't because it wouldn't have made sense at all.
