Review of Lights Out (2016) by Rodolfo D — 08 Oct 2016
Not bad for a movie based on a short film, where the same (scary) minimal concept is expanded to 81 minutes. However, many shortcomings are found, such as a thin plot that starts out promising and then turns into semi derivative horror, and simply not enough developed characters, or an interesting storyline for that matter.
Given that I had not been scared by a movie of the magnitude of this movie's beginning since It Follows, it is recommendable for the dedicated actors involved, and some cliches that the movie does manage to avoid, but its horror alone (which was so well executed at first) isn't enough to put a good word in.
I'll say it's good for including in a Halloween marathon for instance, but only along with other movies that are willing to complement the flaws.
