Review of Lights Out (2016) by Anthony I — 02 Nov 2016
Lights out was about half as good as I thought it was going to be (This is an in depth explanation, if you want it short, the movie wasnt good). There was a lot going for the film with the original concepts and the more recently succesfull director in the industry James Wan.
After His recent success through Directing the films The Conjuring and the Insidious series, Both of which are excellent, This film "Lights out" was a sure fire in the eyes of his following.
As original as the concept was, The story line was very forgettable, lacking many important components for an immersive experience. The characters were not unique, My personal favorite was the boyfriend, who throughout the whole movie seemed to have the most depth within compassion, common sense and overall attitude.
The conflicts within the plot were not unique and were very predictable with no other memorable moments leading up to the climax of the movie. The climax itself was off, alright at the most but Truly lacking artistically, as the whole film was.
I will admit this may have been a hard monster to create through film, much more believable through writing I'm sure. But when it came time for the spotlight, Diana failed to be unique, haunting and natural.
Don't get me wrong a still image of her shadow gives me the creeps, but watching her real time was unfortunate it was not scary nor did I feel it did any justice to the potential of this monster. I was dissapointed with the film.
