Review of Lights Out (2016) by Paul M — 27 Jul 2016
I have no idea how this one is scored so high. Maybe I had too high of expectations... I don't know. But to me the movie had a paper thin plot that's explained only when the main character finds a cardboard box which then leads into 5 minutes of blatantly lazy exposition. The jump scares were predictable and on cue and the aesthetic of the monster (along with the male supporting character I might add) are ripped straight from "The Ring." This movie is a wannabe Babadook.
TLDR: Big-Box horror at its worse. An interesting premise of which has been sanitized and neutered to appeal to a PG-13 tween horror crowd. Utter garbage.
Watch instead: The Babadook or Housebound.
