Review of Light of Day (1987) by Ola G — 30 Mar 2009
The siblings Patty Rasnick (Joan Jett) and Joe Rasnick (Michael J. Fox) live in an industrial suburb in Cleveland. While Patty's ambition is their rock band "The Barbusters", Joe also cares for the family and the upbringing of Patty's young son Benji. Their religious mother Jeanette (Gena Rowlands) is not too happy about their way of life, especially when they decide to go on tour, taking Benji with them. The paths of Patty and Joe will eventually bring the whole family closer when their mother is found sick..
Paul Schrader have one or two solid ones in his portfolio, that is for sure. "Light Of Day" is hardly amongst his better pieces though. This is quite, hmm.. just boring I guess would be the correct word. I was expecting something more. I have wanted to see this movie for a long time, mostly because of Joan Jett. I think she is super cool, hot and just pure rock n roll. Love Joan Jett. But, she can not lift this snore of a movie. And neither can Michael J. Fox (who I also like). I think what I will mostly remember about this movie is the bad haircuts. Michael J. Fox mullet is not to be played with....
