Review of Light It Up (1999) by Grant K — 28 Nov 2008
Weird cross between hostage thriller and poor-ghetto-kids fare. Felt like it tried to guilt trip you into liking it in the end. Also, predictable, and for all the "these kids aren't what this dick-but-also-three-dimensional cop thought they were!," there were too many other characters who played significant if smaller roles that were just walking stereotypes, like whatshisface the gangbanger one with the molotov cocktails.
Having him convert to Islam in jail in the end doesn't make him a dynamic character.
