Review of Lifeboat (1944) by Sharon D — 24 May 2008
Atypical Hitchcock, and surprising Steinbeck (but only because I didn't know he wrote this). I imagine Steinbeck was better able to delve into the psychological and philosophical complexities of being trapped on a lifeboat awaiting a rescue that might or might not come in his writing, but with a great writer, it's always hard for a book to beat a movie. All the same, this is a great movie by the great Hitchcock that captures a moment and a possible predicament during World War II. I was really wondering why this movie isn't more well known -- why hadn't I heard of it before?
As Hitchcock could always deliver , great cinematic effects.
