Review of Lifeboat (1944) by Gerry R — 01 Nov 2008
Who needs cable when PBS is showing classic Hitchcock? Screw you, Ted Rogers! Ahem... now for the review.
Hitchcock shows he can do just about anything in this superb film, a complete departure from his usual murder mysteries, yet still retaining the complex psychological themes that help make him the greatest director ever. A small group of people on a lifeboat is the whole movie, and it's riveting from start to finish, with themes of class, war, sex, race, trust & enmity developing beautifully in shades of grey as the story rolls along. Look for Hitchcock's cameo appearance; yes, he manages to show up (sort of) even on a lifeboat.
