Review of Life on a String (1991) by Private U — 08 Jun 2012
The 1000th String.
This is one of those films I stumbled upon a while ago on video and immediately loved it. I recommend it to you; this is definitely a film well worth seeing.
The ethereal music of the traditional stringed instrument, the Sianxian, alone makes it worthwhile to watch. But the film also contains a perfect combination of elements: a harsh landscape, a tragic love story, and a friendship between an old and young man, as well as the beautiful music. This is one of my favourite Chinese films, its time I watched again. (In fact now I know it?s being released on DVD I will probably buy it.).
