This is a sophomoric cringe-worthy college comedy you've seen a dozen times before. Written and directed by Melissa McCarthy wife/husband team, so it's hardcoded to be adoring/favorable to Melissa. I'm a mature dude - not the demographic for this "awkward mom/daughter at college together" gimmick.
The niche demographic will prolly like/love it, but not the mainstream and that's why you see poor ratings. But I have to rate based on me, not others.
