Review of Life of Brian (1979) by Irina T — 13 Jul 2011
An absolutely amazing satirical comedy, Life of Brian brings out the best of Monty Python. I didn't really understand The Holy Grail perhaps because of the multitude British references, but as a Christian I understood completely what Life of Brian is about and I thoroughly enjoyed the laughs I had. The script and the acting were brilliant and the situation seemed so completely real that it didn't look fake. The absurdity is clearly focused on, especially that of the "Jesus-like" life that Brian led that ultimately led to his crucifixion.
The thing about Monty Python is that it doesn't try so hard to be funny that it seems so genuine. The creators of this movie are definitely passionate about questioning the role of religion and especially Jesus's life.
10/10.
