Monty Python's Life of Brian pulls off the rare feat of being a religious satire that is actually laugh-out-loud funny. Of course, it's no surprise that the Python group were able to poke fun at sacred conventions while avoiding the pitfalls of self-seriousness.
On the the other hand, it is quite noteworthy that this story of Jesus Christ's doppelganger (Graham Chapman) can elicit such a surprising amount of sympathy from the viewer. Life of Brian matches the humor of Holy Grail while taking things to the next level.
