Review of Life of Brian (1979) by Leena L — 10 Apr 2014
Life of Brian is an instantly memorable Python classic, but it's also much more than that. Back in the 70's, this was a very cutting-edge film that took sharp stabs at not just the church, but also what it was to zealously worship a poor man who was thought to be the messiah, except this guy is actually a very naughty boy.
The film itself might seem silly to some people, but that's the point. Monty Python were very good at abstract gags, and in this film, the gags manage to be very consistent with the theme without resorting to religious slapstick.
The characters are simply classic, and each scene in the film has its own great moments. It's not for everyone, but it doesn't have to be, because this was a great film, and it will continue to be great for decades to come.
