Review of Life Itself (2018) by Nicholas J — 23 Sep 2018
One of the worst films of 2018. A self indulgent failed college paper that the film becomes a self fulfilling prophecy as to what jokes people can make with it. From the overabundance of exposition, it's unearned moments of drama from characters that are as basic as a piece of paper, and a film that would rather preach it's college thesis paper rather than tell an interesting story with dark elements.
It has good points from the cinematography and some of the acting, but the script needed more of a rewrite and more attention to the principles of screenwriting for characterization. I've seen bad movies this year, but this takes the cake as being one of the worst pieces this year.
Don't think for a second that I am saying that Fogelman should just stick with TV. He has done films before and he should learn from this. Even Michael Bay keeps getting jobs. So I award one star to Life Itself.
Partially for effort, and partially for the acting and cinematograpy.
