Review of Life Itself (2014) by Kyle B — 28 Jan 2015
After a long 13 month wait, I finally got to see this work of art. Roger Ebert is a personal hero and inspiration of mine so seeing this documentary taught me even more about this amazing man. I cried I few times I will admit especially at the very end and just like Ebert's life, I just didn't want it to end.
He is such a fascinating man snd really is responsible for the success of many independent filmmakers that get to speak in this. It is a shame that the Oscars snubbed it and if it is some sort of animosity towards Ebert giving certain Academy voters bad reviews over the years, that is just wrong.
There were times I wish I could have seen more of certain topics especially the years of At the Movies and his relationship with Gene Siskel but it's understandable that they needed to compress his amazing legacy into just an hour and a half.
Any aspiring film critic, filmmaker, or just movie lover must watch this amazing documentary. 2 thumbs up.
