Review of Life Itself (2014) by Campbell P — 29 Mar 2015
Finally watched this last night - a lot of tears, boy, a lot of tears but they were joyful because this is one of the most life-affirming documentaries I've ever seen aimed right at the heart of a movie lover.
I only saw Ebert in person once, years ago at the Toronto Film Festival and was too nervous to talk to him, but I remember a group of movie fans in the lobby afterwards (can't even remember the movie!) and he was just hanging out chatting with them about what they'd just seen.
He was a great writer and a real big, traditional labor liberal. What can I say, I loved the guy and I miss his voice, but this movie brings him back to life in a beautiful warts and all tribute.
