It would be better to say that it was mentored and edited by Kevin Macdonald but directed by hundred of people that uploaded their videos in You Tube. It is like everything built by a bunch of people that we would never know who exactly they really are.
It is also a symbol of democracy. Every single human as a pixel creating an image in a screen, and this screen is the Earth. We are all one, and we shape the world with our footprints, attitudes, and thinking.
