Review of Life (2017) by Anthony K — 08 Aug 2017
Perfectly adequate alien thriller with an effective (if telegraphed) ending. The music is great at building tension and a sense of isolation, while the direction incorporates quite a few cool, flowing shots of the crew pushing themselves through the ship.
So much else is extremely, disappointingly straightforward, however, and I truly struggled to care about the fates of these people -- particularly once Ryan Reynolds meets his doom about a 3rd of the way through(!!).
The alien's design was also a bit silly, with some extremely ropey CGI. I appreciate this movie for existing as an original sci-fi horror property, but I do wish the execution had been more effective.
