Review of Life (2017) by Jess_Hill — 13 Apr 2017
The cold expanse of space has always been ripe for chilling forays into the perils of undiscovered life, and this film delivers a compelling exploration of the potential such a discovery might entail. The performances are polished, though the script lacks depth; you don't feel particularly connected to the characters, which results in a lack of emotional resonance.
The cinematography is exceptional, and the visual effects and creature design are inspired. There are some horrifying moments, and the pacing keeps the tension taut throughout the film right up to the breathtaking climax.
In the tradition of Alien, though nowhere near as sublime, this is a well crafted sci-fi thriller well worth your time. 8.
