This film is the opposite of The Martian. While The Martian assumed an intelligent audience that could follow the complexities of survival in space the need to "follow protocol," the entire premise of plot of Life depends on everyone on the space station ignoring repeatedly ignoring protocol.
Safety concerns are repeatedly tossed aside, with deadly consequences, only to be tossed aside again minutes later. The talent of a superb cast is wasted on this banal script. It may be believable if one or two characters were to ignore safety protocols, but for the captain of the space team to try and reenter the station, alien attached, rather than sacrifice herself into space strains credulity, particularly when they were unable to handle the alien when it was the size of a human hand.
Nonetheless, the larger the creature grows, the more certain our shrinking space team seems in its own ability to kill the alien.
