Review of Licence to Kill (1989) by Ian G — 07 Feb 2009
In terms of the modern Bonds (late 80's and onwards) this ranks as one of the most solid of the capers along with Casino Royale and Goldeneye, playing out as a straight up action revenge picture with minimal gadgets, exotic locales, solid villains and a intense Bond.
Underated when it came out but my first ever exposure to the character, this film has a bit of a special spot in my heart. Premise it of its time, say no to drugs, but they execute the story around it very well.
Features to my knowledge the only returning Bond girl albeit in a different role for Talia Soto, and a great supporting role for Wanye Newton. Of course doesn't touch the Connery's, but ranks up there still in quality.
Enjoyable. Also watch for Benico Del Toro as a henchmen in one of his first roles.
