Review of Licence to Kill (1989) by Paul B — 27 Dec 2009

An odd entry in the Bond series as it moved away from the ridiculous world domination plots of the past and settled (mostly) for a revenge thriller. Dalton is a long way from Moore's wisecracking, eyebrow raising easy going Bond, in what is at times a nasty little piece of work.

This ironically probably ended Dalton's run as Bond (I prefer him to Moore personally, the Living Daylights is very underated) and 15 years later Bond is back in serious mode. Worryingly Quantum of Solace bears some striking resemblances to this, and actually Licence to Kill is superior as it still feels like a Bond film (Q is here and there is good humour between the female leads) but ultimately this tough thriller is still just not Bond.
