Review of Licence to Kill (1989) by Bryan F — 25 Feb 2013
This is a Bond movie tailored specifically to Timothy Dalton's more serious portrayal of the character, and he seems more comfortable in the role than in his previous outing. This time, Bond goes rogue after getting suspended from MI6.
And he's on a personal vendetta. With a good plot and a strong villain, this could have been really good. But the powers-that-be felt the need to insert silly humor and cheap gags (i.e. Wayne Newton's televangelist character).
In addition, it doesn't really feel like a Bond movie. This seems more in the vein of typical late 80s cop movies like Lethal Weapon.
