Review of Liberal Arts (2012) by Justin V — 28 Jan 2013
Liberal Arts is Josh Radnor's plea to middle-aged to adults to find themselves before old age takes over. His second directorial feature isn't much better than Happythankyoumoreplease, but for me, being near the same age and the film's protagonist, its yearning for meaning and something more to life can clearly be seen and heard.
Radnor shows he's more than just Ted Mosby from How I Met Your Mother, and that's a good thing. What's sad is that this film "enjoyed" such a limited release that seemingly no one saw this.
Elizabeth Olsen is warm and convincing as Zibby, Jesse's (Radnor) very young love interest, and their relationship only helps to punctuate the professional and emotional confusion that Jesse is going through.
Although it's a little uneven, overall the film works, even if it's speaking to a specific demographic. JV.
