Review of Libeled Lady (1936) by Garth B — 28 Jul 2008
I'm really surprised no one has remade this in recent years, considering the current popularity of party girl heiress gossip. Not that it would compare to the original, in part owing to writer Maureen Watkins's background as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, which also served her well when she wrote the original play of Chicago.
Combine that with the powerhouse cast and you have the makings of a classic screwball comedy about libel in the media.
