Review of Leviathan (2014) by James O — 22 Dec 2014
I can see the appeal and it is well acted but the film is too long, drawn out, too dark, gloomy and depressing. Interesting that it was State funded. The message appeared to be that you can't rely on the state to be free from corruption but don't worry because God is watching so everyone will be judged in the afterlife.
Pretty depressing if that was the intended gist and the reason the Russian government were happy to fund. I found it all a little odd.
