Review of Leviathan (2014) by Ahmed S — 17 Jan 2015
Never in my life have I seen a movie with such jumps between events. What the director chooses to show and what to leave for your imagination to fill is smartly original. Top notch cinematography for a beautiful, cold and alienating city, adds all the atmosphere this movie needed.
Performances, especially by Elena Lyadova, are spontaneous as they come, only shows how focused and talented the director is. All in all, Leviathan might prove to be a hard watch for some, for its heavily melodramatic plot and very realistic subjects, but it's definitely one of the year's boldest and most impactful movies.
