Review of Leviathan (2014) by Nick U — 27 May 2015
5/28/15 Amazon Prime.
You know this is a Russian film even without the copious amounts of vodka, the packs of cigarettes and the beautiful but foreboding landscape. Poor Koyla is screwed over by the corrupt political system, his old army buddy and the Orthodox Church. This is a tough 2 hours to watch but it goes quickly and you become absorbed in the story. I can understand why it was nominated in the Best Foreign Language category.
