Review of Leviathan (2013) by Anonymous User — 04 Nov 2012
Absolutely intense, immersive, and gorgeous, probably the best of the year. A few things though: this needs to be seen in a movie theater to get the full impact of the visuals and the sound, and I can't even imagine watching this on a laptop or on TV.
It's not exactly a crowd pleaser; the camera lingers at what seems like nothing for extended periods of time and scenes are very long, zoomed in, abstract, and out of focus. But to me what results is an incredible visceral feast for the senses, a glimpse at the violent war between man and nature, and the incidental moments of beauty captured in the middle of when these two worlds collide.
If anything else, it's one of the most genuinely UNIQUE cinematic experiences you will ever have.
