Review of Leviathan (1989) by Corey B — 08 Mar 2011
Here's the thing. Leviathan is nowhere near a great movie. It's derivative to say the least, pretty much copying Alien beat for beat. It's got a rushed feeling, so that big moments happen in the blink of an eye, and the monster is barely seen.
But, it's fun.
This is a great cast with Weller providing a solid anchor, and Richard Crenna handling the science speak with lots of gusto. And Ernie Hudson is clearly having a great time (what movie is Ernie Hudson in where he doesn't seem to be having a blast?).
The special effects look pretty good when they get a chance to shine, and it's rarely boring. This is all faint praise, but in the end Leviathan worked enough for me.
