Review of Letters to Juliet (2010) by Ana B — 30 May 2011
Predictable and a bit cheesy rom-com. Sophie is engaged to chef Victor but during a holiday to Verona she feels really lonely when he leaves her to her own devices to pursue suppliers for his new restaurant.
Sophie befriends then the secretaries of Juliet, the ladies that answer the messages of the lovelorn and gets to answer a 50 year old misplaced letter. Two days later the writer of the note, an old lady, arrives with an attractive and very single grandson on tow.
You can figure out what happens next. It is not all bad, I loved the locations, Gael Garcia Bernal and Vanessa Redgrave. It is a bit of a shame that there is so little surprise. It is true that a rom-com has very little room for innovation but I still don't get why these two should fall in love at all.
Too many cliches but a beautiful italian landscape.
