Review of Letters to Juliet (2010) by Helena C — 07 Feb 2012
Shakespeare is rolling over in his grave as I type this ...
The movie could have been all right if they left SOMETHING about the ending in doubt ... but they don't. Every single thing that happens in the end you could see coming five minutes in.
A woman and her fiance are vacationing in fair Verona, where she finds a fifty year old letter asking for advice from Juliet in regard to a girl's lost love. The letter is found on a wall where several women travel to place "letters to Juliet" asking for relationship advice. The main character finds that there is a group of women who actually take the time to respond to each one, and she then decides to answer this one herself. Upon receiving it, the author of the letter decides to march off to Verona to find her long lost love (if he is still alive and single) ... uptight grandson in tow.
Not to ruin it for you, but she leaves her fiance for the uptight son in the end. Not that it will shock you anyway. The second you see her with her fiance, you wonder why on earth they were ever a couple. They barely seem like friends, to be honest. Also, you can tell that the uptight grandson is in this movie JUST to hook up with the lead character. It isn't a shocking revelation when it happens. Lastly, as I stated earlier, nothing in this movie is ever in doubt. I will let you draw your own conclusions there. Heh.
10 Scale Rating: 3.5 ...
