Review of Letters to God (2010) by Anya S — 14 Apr 2010
This movie may have had a strong message behind it, but the overall execution was poor. For starters the performances; from the little boy played by Tanner Maguire was not sad or powerful, but rather creepy and forced. Robyn Lively (the mom) was interesting, at first I liked her. But as the story moved on I found her performance to be unbelievable. But above all the worst out of the whole bunch was the boy who played the older brother, to put it simply he was horrible. I did however like the little girl that played Sam (the best friend) she had a certain spunk that made her likable and believable. Moving onto the dialog; this was probably what really made this painful to watch. When there was a lighthearted scene the dialog was good and moved between the characters well, but when it was a more dramatic scene it was corny and unrealistic. For example in the opening act the Son and the grandmother talking in the laundry room was so horribly executed that I wanted to laugh.
I know that there are people out there that would like to debate me on what I've stated above, but let me say that what I've stated is the overall execution of the movie and not the message behind it.
