Review of Letters to God (2010) by Timothy S — 20 Apr 2010
I realize the people who make these movies are trying to do something different by giving people inspirational movies that are good for families. But do they all have to be this bland and uninvolving? These characters are based on real people, but the writing is so bland that you never get to know them on a deep level.
It's all very superficial, and because of that, I was never able to get into this story. I was left unmoved and mostly bored and restless. You never see the connection between Greg Kinnear and Robyn Lively, and I kept wondering why she let this drunken postman into her dying son's life.
You never see their relationship develop, it's just rushed to the point to where he becomes the kid's father figure. The film is preachy and predictable, and there's no real conflict or emotion.
