Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Dilla A — 26 Sep 2009
A star better than 'Flags' because of more focus. We have a main character and a secondary character. However, again, this feels long and not really in a good 'epic' way--just long. At least 20 minutes could have been cut. And then there's the score. Goddamn its the same theme for almost 2.5 hours. Change it. Add to it. Make a counter theme at least! And I'm usually not picky about music in movies. Revolutionary Road did the same thing--one theme for 2 hours.
And though both this and 'Flags' are supposed to be seen together, this 4 (or 5) hour long epic is not as good as Private Ryan (in my opinion). However, as an accomplishment for Clint, it is certainly great.
