Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Ryan Gibbons — 17 Jun 2010
This is certainly a much darker look at the battle. There were some scenes that made me feel uneasy I cant exactly say that its realistic because Im not an expert and i've never been in a war. The cinematography like in the other film is absolutely incredible, I do not know if this way filmed on location.
Another thing I liked is how there was no bashing of either side, the other film gave us a look at what the Japanese did to the American Prisoners and this film gave us a look at what the Japanese did to the American soldiers but again I cannot pretend I know if it is accurate or not.
The dialogue is very well written and all of the actors played their parts well especially ken watanabe and Kazunari Ninomiya, but every actor did well. Once again Eastwood creates a war movie that is actually about war.
I do not want to try to sound smarter than I am, I don't know if all of this was accurate or not but the movie itself is incredibly daring and gripping, Clint Eastwood can do no wrong and he continues to hold the crown as one of the best directors in the business, one of the best movies of 2006.
