Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Charlotte W — 14 Jul 2010
This is a very good film, says someone who hates war films usually because they have too much prolonged gory fighting scenes and not enough sentiment, this has gory fighting, beautifully counterbalanced by the heartrending individual stories.
It's commendable that the Americans made this film about the Japanese's heroic and doomed last stance against them on Iwo Jima. Unlike most war films though it's message is not good versus evil but how ugly and unecessary war can be.
