Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Paul J — 22 Jun 2009
Eastwood makes a Japanese film! Where does he find all the time? Ultimately, this is a fine film with a strong message, brutal war scenes and some decent acting. It's also a wonderful companion piece to Flags of Our Fathers.
But in the end, the film is a little bit too obvious and contrived. The emotion is worn on its sleeve. Still, there are a few understated moments that shine.
