Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Allen B — 25 Jul 2009
Ehhh. Typical Clint Eastwood mediocrity. He's a slightly more talented version of Ron Howard. But only slightly. That's right, I said it.
This got 4 stars from me because it wasn't too terrible, and because it told a unique story from an interesting perspective. It also has some rather impressive and disturbing scenes of violence, namely, the suicide scenes, that irked me a great deal, but in a good way.
Overall, though, the movie could have shed a good half hour, namely, from the beginning, which is dull as all hell and contributes little to the story. And some scenes were just silly/awkward and felt like something out of a much different, much dumber movie.
Other than that, eh, it was okay.
