Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Silvia H — 26 Sep 2009
An impressive movie about the human side of any war and its peoples. A delicate and accurate portrayal of the Japanese culture and its essence, the warriors' fears, dreams, loyalty, patriotism and courage.
The challenges to adapt to a society in transition. Eastwood was impartial in the sense of not focusing on the default evil/hero plot characteristic of many war movies featuring the USA. Even more impressive to have done it so beautifully without speaking a word in Japanese!
