Review of Letters from Iwo Jima (2006) by Omar L — 22 Feb 2011
Audiences are more easily-endeared to subtitled movies, because it lends an air of simplicity to the dialogue. Unfortunately, a viewer may lower his or her standards while watching it, and forgive what might be cheesy lines if actually spoken in English.
This film, however, delivers the complexity of the separation between officers and enlisted men with nuanced performances from all involved. A very good companion piece to Flags of Our Fathers.
